Situated in the northern province of Bac Giang, about 50km from Hanoi, Tho Ha traditional village has emerged as an attractive destination for visitors due to its ancient architecture that offers a great insight into Vietnamese cultural identity.
During the 14th century, Tho Ha was renowned as one of the most famous pottery hubs for local people. The walls around Tho Ha village have not been plastered with mortar, but instead are made from the fragments of pottery and jars, serving to create a unique characteristic for the village..
Once the pottery trade in Tho Ha declined, many of the local residents turned to making rice paper, an item which has become increasingly popular due to its quality and taste.
With plenty of ancient features and a rich cultural history, Tho Ha village regularly attracts plenty of researchers, in addition to both domestic and foreign tourists
ITINERARY
Day 1 : Hanoi daily tour - Tho Ha Traditional Village
9.00 Pick up at your hotel and head for Tho Ha village in Bac Giang province, good chance for sightseeing the countryside scenery, farmers are working on the green field with water buffalo.. Crossing Cau River by local ferry, we will walk around to visit local families of Tho Ha village and learn more about the local culture, have talk and see the local with their daily works.
Discover Tho Ha village through narrow and zigzag alleys with the old houses had been constructed from broken part of terracotta from the past. Walking over village cemetery to the dike, where you can see the village from distance over the beautiful lake. Tho Ha is now known for rice wine or cassava wine and rice paper cakes, and most recently the village’s special brick walls have attracted many film producers, painters, photographers.
Pay a visit to one family and see the procedure of making rice paper cakes, also hand-on experience yourself making your own rice papers. Have talk with the host and learn about the procedure and their way of life.
Driving back Hanoi, we stop to visit Dong Ky wood carving village. Originally, carpentry was a side hobby for the inhabitants of Dong Ky. However, poverty forced the villagers to concentrate their skills on this occupation. The some 12,000 residents now prosper from their trade with the increasing demand from hotels, restaurants, and exporters for their quality, hand carved furniture and crafts. The wood work here is also famous for its meticulously inlaid mother of pearl. After visiting Dong Ky village, we head back to your hotel in Hanoi.
