Hanoi's green rice flakes - the elegant gift of the capital.

22/12/2023
When it comes to Hanoi in autumn, it's all about enjoying some young green rice flakes or sticky rice with green rice, alongside a cup of egg coffee, in the cool weather. All of these elements blend together to create a true "Hanoi" feeling, evoking a sense of nostalgia. Hanoi's green rice flakes are considered one of the traditional specialties, contributing to the unique culinary charm of the capital. It's not just a delicious dish but also a symbol of simplicity, familiarity, and the magic of Vietnam's traditional cuisine.

Delicious Dish from Hanoi's Green Rice Flakes

Com is unripe sticky rice, harvested from special glutinous rice plants in the autumn, when the rice grains begin to turn green and have a thin silver husk, creating a distinctive flavor. The production process of Hanoi's Com is an art, requiring delicacy and high technique from selecting rice, roasting, and grinding to create the unique flavor, ensuring deliciousness and special aroma.

Com Sticky Rice: One of the traditional delicacies of Hanoi is Com Sticky Rice. Glutinous rice is roasted and gently ground to create soft and fragrant com grains, which are then combined with cooked green beans or peanut fillings, creating a delicious, sweet, and enticing sticky rice dish.

Com Sweet Soup: An excellent dessert is Com Sweet Soup. Com is soaked in coconut milk, added with green beans, coconut, or even jelly if desired. This sweet soup is not only delicious but also cool and refreshing, making it a perfect choice on hot summer days.

Com Cake: Com is also used to make cakes with a sweet and gentle flavor that many people love. Com cake has a sweet, fragrant rice flavor, combined with fillings such as green beans, jelly, or candied fruit to create a special taste.

Com Cake: A unique combination is Com Cake, where com is mixed with various spices, meat, creating a delicious and enticing type of cake. Com cake is often fried until crispy and served with sweet and sour fish sauce or salted lemon pepper sauce.

Com Bao Cake: This is a traditional bao cake, with the filling inside being com, green beans, and occasionally added with meat or salted eggs. Com bao cake has a sweet, gentle taste, with a distinctive aroma from com and is a favorite dish of many people.

Famous address to buy delicious Com

When touring the capital city and looking to buy Hanoi's Com as gifts for friends and family, it's advisable to visit reputable addresses below:

Vong Ba Can Village Com: 19, Alley 85 Xuan Thuy, Cau Giay District
Aunt Man's Vong Com: 10, Alley 86, Alley 44 Tran Thai Tong, Cau Giay District
Soft Com Me Tri: 6, Alley 32/48/3 Do Duc Duc, Nam Tu Liem District
Lê Gia Traditional Com: 2, Alley 59/130 Me Tri, Nam Tu Liem District

Fresh Hanoi Com typically can only be preserved for about 1-2 days at room temperature. If you want to preserve it longer, especially in hot and humid weather, place the Com in an airtight bag or container and store it in the refrigerator. If possible, you can use a vacuum-sealed bag for preservation. This way, air and moisture from the outside will be completely removed, helping the Com retain its freshness and flavor for a longer period. Com stored in the refrigerator can last for up to 5-7 days.
