Cao Phong Oranges: A Famous Specialty of Hoa Binh
.jpg)
If you have ever been to Hoa Binh, you must have heard of Cao Phong oranges. Due to the soil and the production techniques of the locals, these oranges are sweet, larger than other types on the market.
Famous orange-growing area in Hoa Binh
This type of orange is grown in Cao Phong district, Hoa Binh province, bordering Kim Bôi. The terrain in this area is mainly gently sloping hills, not too steep, and shaped like an inverted bowl, making it easy for water to drain. This is also one of the reasons why oranges in Cao Phong have such a distinctive sweet taste.
Oranges have been grown in Cao Phong since around 1960 and are mainly concentrated in Nam Phong commune. The harvest season lasts from September to the following April, but the sweetest and most delicious oranges are in November.

Special features of Cao Phong oranges
This type of fruit does not have a bright yellow color like Chinese oranges or the characteristic green color of Vietnamese tangerines. Phong oranges have a yellow color similar to pomelos, so you can easily tell the difference.
Moreover, the skin is also thinner compared to other types of oranges. Especially, both the fruit and leaves will wither within a day if cut from the branch. Therefore, when buying, visitors need to observe to choose the best oranges.
