Doan Hung Pomelo - A sweet fruit, uniquely flavored by the rich terroir of our homeland
A Brief Overview of the Special Pomelo of our Ancestral Land
Doan Hung pomelo, also known as Phu Doan pomelo, is a special fruit deeply rooted in the ancient history of Dai Minh village, Yen Binh district, Yen Bai province. Every harvest season, the locals would select the best, most beautiful, and highest quality pomelos to offer to the king. Later, the people of Doan Hung successfully requested the seeds and cultivated them, making it the specialty fruit of this land.
Characteristics of the Famous Pomelo of Phu Tho
This type of pomelo is large and round, feeling heavy in the hand. When ripe, the pomelo has a bright yellow color, not too thick a skin, and a very distinctive aroma. What makes this pomelo famous far and wide is its naturally delicious, sweet, and refreshing flavor, along with thick and juicy segments.
Pomelo Harvest Time
Pomelos are usually harvested around the 8th lunar month each year. At this time, the pomelos have begun to ripen, and the locals will start harvesting from autumn and continue until the end of the year. Notably, the longer this type of pomelo is stored, the sweeter it becomes.
Where to Buy Pomelos as Gifts
When traveling to Phu Tho, you can visit the fruit orchards in Doan Hung district to buy the freshest pomelos. Additionally, you can find pomelos at roadside stalls or local markets.
Doan Hung pomelo is not only a fruit but also a precious gift from our ancestral land. The locals often use pomelos as gifts for relatives and friends during holidays. If you have the opportunity to visit Phu Tho, don't forget to buy this specialty fruit as a gift!
