Up to now, there are 8 vaccines against COVID-19 that have been licensed for use in Vietnam by the Ministry of Health.
Vaccines currently approved for use include AstraZeneca, Gam-COVID-Vac (also known as SPUTNIK V), Vero Cell, Pfizer/BioNTech's Comirnaty, Spikevax (Alternatively Moderna), Janssen, Hayat-Vax, and Abdala.

8 approved Covid - 19 vaccines information in Vietnam
1. The AstraZeneca vaccine produced by AstraZeneca Corporation has been licensed for emergency use in 181 countries and territories and has been included in the list of emergency use by the World Health Organization (WHO). AstraZeneca was approved by Vietnam on February 1, 2021, and has been vaccinated since March 2021, currently having the largest number of uses in Vietnam. This is a vaccine produced by vector technology, using 2 doses 8-12 weeks apart.
2. The Gam-COVID-Vac vaccine (also known as SPUTNIK V) produced by Gamaleya Research Institute, Russia has been licensed for use in 70 countries and territories. In Vietnam, the Sputnik V vaccine was conditionally approved by the Ministry of Health for an urgent need in the prevention and control of COVID-19 on March 23, 2021. This is a vaccine using recombinant technology carrying the gene encoding the S protein of SARS-CoV-2. The vaccine is given in 2 doses 3 weeks apart.
3. Vero Cell vaccine developed by Sinopharm and Beijing Institute of Biological Products Co. Ltd - Made in China, has been licensed for use in 64 countries and territories, has been included in the list of emergency use by the World Health Organization. On June 3, 2021, the Vero Cell vaccine was conditionally approved by the Ministry of Health for an urgent need in the prevention and control of COVID-19. This vaccine is produced by virus inactivation technology, administered in 2 doses 3-4 weeks apart.
4. Pfizer/BioNTech's Comirnaty vaccine has been licensed for use in 111 countries and territories and is listed for emergency use by the World Health Organization. This vaccine was conditionally approved by the Ministry of Health for urgent needs in the prevention and control of COVID-19 on June 16, 2021. The vaccine is produced by mRNA technology, using 2 injections 3-4 weeks apart. On August 23, 2021, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officially gave full approval to the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for the prevention of COVID-19 in people 16 years of age and older.
5. The Spikevax vaccine (also known as Moderna) manufactured by Moderna has been licensed for use in 64 countries and territories and has been included in the list of emergency use by the World Health Organization. This vaccine is also produced using mRNA technology, using 2 doses 4 weeks apart. The Ministry of Health has conditionally approved this vaccine for the urgent need in COVID-19 prevention and control on June 28, 2021.
6. Janssen vaccine manufactured by Janssen Pharmaceutica NV (Belgium) and Janssen Biologics BV (Netherlands) is licensed for use in 56 countries and territories and has been listed by the World Health Organization for urgent use. grant. The vaccine is produced using virus vector technology, using a single dose. Currently, Vietnam has not received this vaccine, but the Ministry of Health has conditionally approved this vaccine for the urgent need in COVID-19 prevention and control on July 15, 2021.
7. Hayat - Vax vaccine is a semi-finished product manufactured by the Beijing Institute of Biological Products Co., Ltd. of China National Biotec Group (CNBG), China. This vaccine is packaged in primary, secondary and shipped at Julphar (Gulf Pharmaceutical Industries) - United Arab Emirates. Hayat - Vax vaccine each 0.5 ml dose contains 6.5 units of SARS-CoV-2 antigen (Vero cells) inactivated, prepared in the form of suspension for injection. The vaccine is packaged in a box of one vial containing a dose of 0.5 ml and a box of one vial containing 2 doses of 0.5 ml each. The Ministry of Health issued a conditional approval decision for this vaccine on September 10, 2021, for the urgent need in COVID-19 disease prevention and control. The dose of injection is waiting for the Ministry of Health to update the guidelines.
8. Abdala vaccine is manufactured in finished products at AICA Laboratories, Base Business Unit (BBU) AICA - Cuba and exported semi-finished products and packaged at Level 2 at the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology ( CIGB) - Cuba. Abdala vaccine 0.5ml each contains 50 mcg of recombinant protein vaccine containing the SARS-CoV-2 receptor-binding region (RBG) in suspension for intramuscular injection. The vaccine is packaged in a box of 10 vials, each containing 10 doses, each dose of 0.5ml. The Ministry of Health conditionally approved this vaccine for the urgent need in COVID-19 disease prevention and control on September 17, 2021. The injection dose is waiting for the Ministry of Health to update the guidelines.
