Van Phuc silk village

Van Phuc Silk Village (also known as Ha Dong Silk Village) is now part of Van Phuc ward, Ha Dong district, about 10 kilometers from Hanoi's city center. It is a famous ancient silk weaving village that has existed for over a thousand years. Van Phuc silk boasts some of the oldest and most intricate patterns in Vietnam. The silk from Van Phuc was so beautiful that it was once selected for making royal garments.

Situated on the banks of the Nhue River, Van Phuc Silk Village still retains some of the ancient features of traditional rural villages, such as the image of an old banyan tree, a well, a communal yard, and an afternoon market held under the banyan tree in front of the communal house. Today, alongside modern mechanical looms, some families still maintain the use of traditional handlooms from ancient times.
