It was the birthplace of the nation-building and defense efforts of three dynasties: the Đinh, Early Lê, and the beginning of the Lý dynasty. Perhaps it was the surrounding mountains and intertwined rivers that formed a natural, sturdy fortress, protecting the capital from invaders.
