Can Cau commune

Can Cau is a commune in Si Ma Cai district, Lao Cai province, Vietnam. Visiting Can Cau, tourists not only explore the landscapes and daily life of the local highland people but also have the opportunity to participate in Can Cau Market - one of the rare markets that still retains the pristine characteristics of the ethnic people.

Can Cau Market is a traditional market that has preserved the cultural activities of the Flower Hmong, Black Dao, Tay, Nung, and Giay people for hundreds of years. The market is held every Saturday morning along Route 153 - the only road connecting Bac Ha town with Si Ma Cai town. It is located beside the terraced fields that cling to the mountainside, perpetually shrouded in mist. The market space is divided into various sections: a section for brocade, a section for fruits and agricultural products, tools and equipment for farming, traditional medicine, herbs, liquor, a food area, and a special section for buying and selling buffaloes brought by the highland people to trade at the market.
